About Black and Gold Marble
Black and Gold is Pakistan's most dramatic natural marble, quarried from the Lasbela and Khuzdar belt of Balochistan. Formed over millions of years as carbon-rich limestone metamorphosed under intense geological pressure, it developed a deep, near-opaque black calcite matrix shot through with veins of golden iron oxides — nature's own gilding, frozen in stone.
What sets Black and Gold apart is the sheer theatre of its veining. Where most black marbles are flat and uniform, this stone erupts with amber-gold lightning across a midnight base. The Pakistani market has long traded it under the name Michael Angelo, and international buyers know it as the Pakistani Portoro — a domestic answer to Italy's legendary Portoro, at a fraction of the import cost. No two slabs are ever alike; each is a one-off work of geology.
From five-star hotel lobbies to luxury drawing rooms and corporate reception walls, Black and Gold is the stone architects specify when a space must make an entrance. Its dark surface hides dust and scuffs far better than white marble, while the gold veining catches light and draws the eye. See how it compares in our Black and Gold vs Silky Black table below.

Best Applications for Black and Gold Marble
- Feature walls: The signature use — book-matched 20mm slab pairs create symmetrical gold-on-black walls for double-height lobbies and drawing rooms.
- Flooring: Statement floors in 24"x24" calibrated tiles. Pair with Ziarat White borders for a classic black-and-white composition.
- Stairs: 30mm bullnosed treads; the dark surface hides shoe scuffs and the gold veining guides the eye along the stair run.
- Kitchen countertops: Dramatic and practical — the dark base hides stains far better than white marble. Apply a penetrating sealer against oils and acids. See our kitchen marble guide.
- Bathroom: Vanity tops and accent walls; honed finish recommended for wet-area slip resistance.
- Outdoor: Not recommended for sun-exposed flooring — black stone absorbs heat and can reach uncomfortable surface temperatures in summer.
